I’m the most popular kid in my class. I can’t help it, I’ve always been this way. Recently this new kid showed up from a different city, and he’s a threat to my popularity. I need ideas to bring Mickey down. Please help! My reputation is really at stake!

So school is your domain, huh? You’re the king of the class, maybe even king of the whole school… You sound like a pretty cool kid, so I hope I can help you work this out (without bringing Mickey down for real!) Here’s a few things to keep in mind when you go back to school tomorrow:
1. Thinking about this issue too much will put you in a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad mood, which will actually make you seem less cool to everyone else. And we wouldn’t want that, would we? The popular kid has to be the fun guy. The one who’s always smiling and confident, and who doesn’t worry too much about stuff.
2. Same goes for acting like a jerk to Mickey. A lot of the kids in your class will realize that you’re just doing it to bring Mickey down, and they’ll probably think it’s pretty uncool of you. And being cool is the goal here!
3. There is definitely a chance that Mickey will stay well-liked in your class, and if that happens you want to make sure he doesn’t try to bring you down. So you’ve got to be friendly to Mickey – really, truly friendly (don’t just fake it!) – so that he likes you and doesn’t try to overrule you. And there’s a very big plus side to this: Who knows? Maybe you’ll actually like this guy, and then you can rule the school together! It can be so much more fun that way.
So when you’re feeling threatened by Mickey, make sure to keep positive, happy thoughts and to be friendly to him.
And always remember: Keep it cool! Confidence can go a pretty long way.
